Talking to Civil Attorneys
Because my practice is limited to criminal law, I don’t often work with civil practice lawyers. When I do, it’s usually because one of my clients is being sued civilly for something related to his or her criminal case. I have a few clients in that situation right now. When the attorneys involved in those civil matters call me, I know they are civil practice attorneys before they can finish their first sentence. This is because they always introduce themselves as “so-and-so” from “such-and-such, such-and-such, and such-and-such.” They don’t say “from the firm of such-and-such, such-and-such, and such-and-such.” I suspect that’s because their venerable firms are such well-known institutions in the Arizona legal community that I should instantly know just what they’re talking about. After the Collapse
Defense attorneys, at least the ones I know, regularly speculate about how much time we have before the criminal justice system finally collapses. The argument is never about whether it’s going to happen, but rather about when it’s going to happen. Spend enough time in court with open eyes, and you’ll wonder the same thing. The system is so broken and overflowing with cases that most of us think it can’t possibly last much longer. Always one to embrace a little doom and gloom, instead of talking about how we might prevent the imminent collapse, I’d rather talk a little about how I think things are likely to be after it happens. No Poll
As you can tell, we went ahead and picked a name. We appreciate all the suggestions and comments as well as the logo, but we ultimately decided we should call the blog something that actually describes what it is. We are in Chandler. We practice nothing but criminal defense. We just blog about things we feel are relevant to the practice of criminal law in Arizona. An increase in search relevance isn’t a bad side-effect (people searching for the terms “brown” and “little” probably aren’t looking for a lawyer), and it avoids words that, like “desert” or “justice,” might be cheesy or misrepresent what we do.
